Hengchun Peninsula is a place where waves of culture have come to shore. From Indigenous peoples, Han and Hakka settlers, to the Spanish, Dutch, British, Americans, and Japanese—ocean currents carry world cultures here, and the winds whisper dreams. Hengchun is a place where anything can happen. Here, Hengchun folk songs echo in blended tongues, Spring Scream Festival gave rise to an indie music frontier, and the film Cape No. 7 turned people’s gaze toward the southern edge—awakening a longing for a life all its own.
On this land where freedom meets spirit, those who arrive—and stay—are walking a life unlike the city, unlike anyone else. That journey has become a way of being we call: the Hengchun way.
From across borders and cultures, people gather to form The Sounding Memory—a sonic tapestry of West African drumming by Djembe Yoyola, the Paiwan nose flute by Lantian Music, celestial storytelling with Uncle Wai from Hong Kong, a Malaysian Mid-Autumn market, a sound artist who biked from Germany to Taiwan, and Guhit Band the Filipino migrant reggae band. In Hengchun, global voices weave into a living soundscape.
Between valley trails, hidden paths, and floating meadows, time opens its seams—welcoming us into the mountains beyond the sea. The Moving Body traverses Menmaluo Mountain, Lanren River, Paiwan villages, Sheding, and Shuangliu National Park. Whether on foot, by bike, or through van life, these routes awaken new ways to move and live. Meanwhile, designers and Chimerik collective(CA) settle into Sichongxi Hot Springs, together they explore how digital nomads of today work, live, and draw inspiration from the wild.
The ocean is a shared way of life on the Hengchun Peninsula. The Living Frequency invites us into this aquatic world through a collaboration with Taiwan Dive, surfacing ocean awareness via open-air forums, film screenings, and immersive exhibitions. As waves rise and fall, body and mind retune to their rhythms. Canadian dance artist Andrea Nann brings her Conscious Bodies Methodology®—using movement, improvisation, and awareness to align with the sea’s pulse and what lies ahead. In this space, we reconnect—with nature, the future, and ourselves.
An annual reset. A new way of life. This is the Far Far Away Festival. We beguile you to hear, to see, to do, to move—to shape a way of life that is YOURS and ours, in the Far Far Away land.
Far Far Away—not SO far, not TOO near—just close enough to come here.
