Description

Vélo Paradis

"Stampf!" Is a Duo consisting of german electronic musician Rübezahl and the tap dancer Hsiang-Hsin Malikah Wang from Taiwan, whose performances combine elements of their specialties, improvised experimental music and audience interaction. Traveling has been an important theme for Stampf! since 2017, with the duo hitchhiking to festivals in major European cities and performing on the Kulturzug train from Germany to Poland. In 2018 they started to travel from Germany to Taiwan overland by bicycle, arranging performances, workshops, and exchanges with local artists on their way. In total, they traveled through 20 countries before arriving in Taiwan in 2020. The "Vélo Paradis" concert in Hengchun is inspired by this one-and-a-half-year journey across Europe and Asia. In addition to the marvelous and interesting sounds and stories they encountered and collected along the way, the bicycle parts will also be transformed into musical instruments, creating a mysterious soundscape that will make people enter a fantastic world following their travels.

About

Hsiang-Hsin "Malikah" Wang

Taiwanese tap dancer, improvisation addict, experimental musician. Eager to express and explore through creating the soundscape in the moment. Malikah enjoy exploring the possibility of combining tap dance with storytelling, and theatrical elements. She enjoy exploring different ways to express herself, and passionate about learning and exchanging with other cultures. Her adventurous character refer to hitch-hiking trip from LA to NYC and like the journey of cycling across Eurasia, that continue to be a great inspiration for her creative process. No matter traveling, participating artist residency, performing, collecting sound & natural materials, experimental/improvisation, weaving/making handcrafts, her artistic practices are discovering the environment and elements around for creating surprises.

Ruben "Rübezahl" Rübe

Rübezahl is an electronic musician, that builds his own instruments and gadgets. From his Nintento Gameboy he is sending bleeps and pulses at extremes speeds, where fast becomes the new slow. Combined with the soothing sounds of the unique Xaphoon, a mixture between a flute and a saxophone, it creates an apocalyptic atmosphere that is surprisingly fun and deliciously entertaining. His self built instruments are one of a kind, incorporating the audience and the environment in the performance, have a focus on analogue electronics and exploring the physical facet of sound. Feedback loops and further processing make sure the blurred line between dancefloor and experimental music is neglected at all times.
