🌺Far Far Away Festival X Shore Bar🌍 The most international and the chillest event of the season
Guhit BandBy day, they work in factories in southern Taiwan; by night, they reclaim their freedom through music. Guhit Band, a reggae group formed by Filipino migrant workers based in Tainan and Kaohsiung, has spent the past seven years performing everywhere from parks and birthday parties to major festivals, turning their music into a safe harbor for souls adrift far from home.
"Guhit" means "to draw" in Tagalog, a name that reflects their mission to sketch emotions through melody and tell stories of unity through rhythm. The band includes vocalists MJ and Kaye, guitarist Billy, bassist Pao, drummer Aman, and keyboardist Andrew. Though they spend their days working in factories, by night they transform into storytellers, using rhythm and melody to express hope, struggle, and unity.
Since their founding in 2019, Guhit Band has grown from playing in parks, birthday parties, and company parties, to becoming a recognized name in Taiwan's indie music scene. In 2024, they made history as the first Filipino migrant band to perform on the iconic stage of Megaport Festival (大港開唱) in Kaohsiung, a milestone that marked not only their artistic journey, but also a powerful step for migrant voices in Taiwan.
Their original song Island of Love was written in response to a deep sense of loneliness and aspirations–an imaginary island of peace, love, and mutual respect amidst the isolation–a feeling often felt by migrant workers. Through music, Guhit Band advocates for a universal unity across races and classes, breaking down barriers and creating a safe space for souls adrift.
With a growing international audience, Guhit Band isn't just about music, they're building a community. Their story is not only about reggae rhythms, but about resilience, healing, and the power of music to make even the most distant place feel like home.
